Yarn Bomb Near Peanut Barrel Honors Pride Month
I was in the middle of another piece for East Lansing Info (ELi) when my editor emailed me about writing an additional story about a recent "yarn bomb" that appeared near Peanut Barrel in downtown East Lansing. The woman who put up the yarn bomb gave on of the most conversational and comfortable interviews I've had so far. I was glad to see our publication recognizing an important month for many in our community. It was also a privilege for me to be able to write a more feature-like piece for ELi, since we normally do exclusively news stories.

UKirk at MSU Students Taking on Issue of Book Deserts
At first, I struggled with this story, since there weren't a ton of sources and the project was relatively new. As the weeks went by, though, the interview I had done with the campus minister slowly became more relevant, and I was able to quickly write the story. A lot of my ELi stories focus on community, and what community members do to help. This story in particular helped make me more aware of just how many people in our community wanted to do something to help out their neighbors, and people they didn't even know.
